My Favorite Breastfeeding Accessories

I have three friends that are pregnant and I’ve been racking my brain to come up with a list of products that helped me with breastfeeding. Items that won’t necessarily be on their registries but that they will appreciate in those first few, sleep deprived months! Please give feedback on your favorites not listed here:

  1. Nursing Pillow: I have the Boppy and the Brest Friend pillows. I used the Brest Friend more for nursing because I like how it attached to me; making it easier to get positioned and nursing quickly. We used our Boppy more for holding him in our arms to prevent arm and back strain. Was great for visitors to use too.  I highly recommend taking a nursing pillow with you  when you fly with your baby.  This makes nursing in tight quarters comfortable for both of you and give baby a place to sleep during the flight.  I use the smaller Boppy pillow for flying. Brest Friend makes a n inflatable travel version but I don’t think it would be comfortable to sit with something wrapped around your waste in an  already cramped airline seat.
  2. Nursing Bra Tank: I bought two of the Bravado Nursing Bra Tank in my last trimester of pregnancy and haven’t stopped wearing them since. I love them! The shelf bra can support my size E breasts, the snaps are easy to maneuver with one hand, and you don’t have to show your stomach to the world while breastfeeding out and about!
  3. Nursing Nightgown: I lived in my Bella Materna nursing nightgown for the first three months. The fabric is super comfortable, does well after repeated washing, provides quick and easy access to the breast, and is super cute! It’s a bit on the pricey side but is a much needed luxury for nursing mothers.
  4. Silicon Nipple Covers: There are lots of different kinds out there on the market, made to sooth sore nipples. I would put them in the freezer and then apply after nursing. These little wonders made it possible for me to wear a bra the first three months! Be sure to get the kind that are 100% silicon. They can also be a bit pricey so try cutting them in half to double your inventory and make them last longer!

    Breastfeeding During a Flight | LactationConsultant.com Says:

[...] Breastfeeding is a great way to combat ear pain due to the rapid changes in altitude that occur in flight. My sister advised me to nurse my baby during takeoff and landing so the sucking motion would help alleviate any pressure in his ears. This seems to work for him and had the added benefit of knocking him out for most of the flight which made for smooth sailing. I would also recommend bringing a nursing pillow to make nursing more comfortable and give your tot a comfy place to sleep.
