Nursing Nightgowns & Breastfeeding Dresses
During my last trimester, I started looking for breast feeding clothing that would be stylish, comfortable, and easy to wear. When I first came across the glamourmom site, I was hopeful that their nursing dress would be a staple in my postpartum wardrobe. I wanted to look cute and be functional for breast feeding so the nursing dress seemed to be the answer. When I tried it on for the first time I was impressed by the built in bra and was glad to have my engorged breasts supported. But as soon as I started to move around, I was uncomfortable. The way the bra works is that it supports under the breast and around the areola. The bra has a circular cut out to allow access to the areola and nipple for feeding. For me, this round cut out really irritated my already sore nipples. As I moved around, so did this cut out part of the bra. The edge of it kept grazing my nipples and exacerbated the soreness. I immediately stopped using it and bought a pricier Bella Materna nursing gown. The Bella Materna fabric never irritated my nipples and was one of the only things I could manage to wear during the first three months of my son’s life. They should be standard issue to every new mom!
