Who We Are

We met while pregnant with our first children. Bonding instantly over the ups and downs of pregnancy, birth, and parenthood we shared a commitment to breastfeeding our babes. As we embarked on a journey that looked much different than we had ever imagined, we learned a lot through the support of friends, advice of doctors, and most importantly from visits with our lactation consultants. Through pain and sleepless nights, we continued to share our new lives as mothers and support each other in breast feeding. When we started to get some sleep and could finally nurse without wincing :), we came together to create a site that would help other moms navigate the rewards and challenges of breast feeding.

We are real moms with real issues and lactationconsultant.com has information we hope you can really use!

    Hi Nora,
Thanks for commenting on my blog. This site is a wonderful resource so I’m glad you directed me to it. I will probably be nursing Silas till he initiates weaning, but I’m a working mom and he’s a growing boy, so he has had to adjust to another milk while I’m away. Like you, I didn’t want to give my son cow’s milk and we’ve successfully kept him off of cow dairy, thus far. We did try goat milk and occasionally give him goat cheese but he’s not a huge fan. Hemp milk has been a great alternative since it’s higher in fat and protein than some milk alternatives and doesn’t have the hormonal interactions that have recently given soy a bad reputation. Most importantly, he LIKES it! It is more expensive than other milk alternatives, but we’ve found that the grocer will give us a discount if we buy it by the case. Since you’re in Seattle (I’m just across the Sound from you, on BI), I doubt you’ll have a problem finding it. Good luck!
